STPI Represents Taiwan for the Third Time Attending the ICOLC Annual Meeting

This year Ms. Beatrice Lin, the Principle Investigator of CONCERT (CONsortium on Core Electronic Resources in Taiwan) team in STPI, represented Taiwan to attend the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) Annual Conference in Vancouver, Canada for the third time.

In the Conference she discussed with the library consortia representatives from around the world on the subjects including the management and development trend of library consortia, open access, Control Digital Lending, Resource Access 21, how to facilitate cooperation among consortia and etc.

In February this year, the University of California announced its separation with Elsevier, one of the world’s largest — and most profitable — publishers of academic research, which raised a great deal of attention in academic community worldwide.  Therefore, an in-depth discussion about the impact of UC’s action is included in the Conference.  In addition, an emerging procurement model “Publish and Read” is introduced to the Conference participants in details.

The library consortia have developed successfully for years.  The consortia around the world all agree that libraries need to continuously learn and innovate in the era of knowledge economy in order to enhance the impact and service efficiency.
