STPI’s Director General Accompanied Minister to Europe to Eye for Talents


To attract overseas talents to join research institutions in Taiwan, Minister Chen Liang-Gee led several representatives from 9 top-ranked universities and 11 Young Scholars Fellowship recipients from Taiwan to hold three seminars in London, Paris, and Berlin between March 30 and April 6, 2019.  It is the second time that STPI’s Director General, Dr. Yuh-Jzer Joung, assisted the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) organized an overseas talent recruitment trip after the visit to the USA in 2018.

This is STPI’s second time to organize overseas talents recruitment program for MOST since launch of the Young Scholar Fellowship Program in 2018.  It is hoped that through hosting seminars in focused cities, talents and foreigners can be attracted and return to Taiwan to teach.  Director General Yuh-Jzer Joung led 5 STPI researchers accompanied with MOST and nearly 30 university representatives to attend not only the first seminar in London, but also following seminars in Paris and Berlin.

MOST’s Young Scholar Fellowship Program includes the Einstein Program and the Columbus Program. Einstein Program encourages young people to think and create different aspects emerging topics to explore. Columbus Program encourages young scholars to continuously focus on big innovation ideas. Simultaneously, support them to go abroad to research, cooperate with foreign research institutions, and build up multinational alliances to expand international vision and influence.

Young Scholar Fellowship Program’s final goal is to provide sufficient scientific research resources to young scholars. From one aspect, young scholars may create innovative ideas and produces extraordinary results through this program. Form the other aspect, research institutions may have the advantage to recruit talents with other foreign institutions.
