Dr. Suhyeon Yoo and Mr. Taemin Park of KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) visited STPI on November 7-11 as part of the STPI/KISTI annual staff exchange program.  They participated in the 2-day CONCERT (Consortium on Core Electronic Resources in Taiwan) annual conference hosted by STPI, visited CONCERT team and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) Library during their 5-day visit schedule in Taiwan.  Dr. Suhyeon Yoo who is in charge of KISTI’s KESLI (Korean Electronic Site License Initiative) Consortium concludes that CONCERT and KESLI face similar challenges in operating the electronic resources consortia after having in-depth discussion with CONCERT team.  She encourages CONCERT team to visit KESLI for better understanding of the consortium in Korea.

At NTNU Library KISTI staff visited the Director of Taiwan Academic E-Book & Database Consortium (TAEBDC) Ms. M J Chen.  Dr. Yoo raised a number of questions with regard to how TAEBDC negotiate with Cambridge Collections Online, Oxford Scholarship Online and other renowned global brand in publishing for the best benefit for the libraries in Taiwan.  She is also interested in how popular the E-books are for college students in Taiwan.

The workshop and discussion session arranged in STPI focused mainly on the latest development and challenges of CONCERT.  The Director of CONCERT Ms. M. L. Beatrice Lin introduced the missions, member status, and operation mechanism of CONCERT in details.  Ms. Lin also introduced NDDS (Nationwide Document Delivery Service) to KISTI staff and invited them to share their experiences in operating the National Discovery for Science Leaders (NDSL), a similar integrated search service for S&T information in Korea.

STPI and KISTI have built up collaborative partnerships since four decades ago.  Every year they send a pair of staff to each other to enforce the staff exchange program listed in the bilateral MOU.
